Everyone needs a goal. If you want to know how your life is going to turn out you need to know where you’re heading. Goal setting is crucial.
Goal Setting Made Simple
Goal setting isn’t rocket science. If you don’t know where you’re heading how will you know when you’ve arrived?
Most of us serve our ideals by fits and starts. The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. – Cecil B. Demille
Okay, let’s think this through. You are already successful at setting personal goals and achieving them. Yes, you are! I dare you to list some personal goals now. You know, those times you made a decision to do something and went out and did just it.
Here’s a list of personal goals I’ve achieved with unswerving determination
- be an engineer
- buy my first car (and learn to drive)
- find a partner to share life
- own my first home
- change career at thirty-something
I could go on. But there’s no need. I hope you’ll notice that these aren’t extraordinary personal goals. In many ways they are quite ordinary. But they all have one thing in common: I wanted them. And I achieved them.
Some took some years to realise. Others months. But my raison d’être was to achieve a single goal.
If you truly want something you’ll go out and get it. It’s the power of decision. Goal setting is not about writing lists or brainstorming. It’s simply a matter of choice.
